A combat sports veteran since the age of three, John “The Original Bones”Shaddock, has spent the majority of his life training in various
disciplines. A former wrestler and golden gloves boxer, at the age of 39
Shaddock made the transition over to Jiu-Jitsu, where has since earned his
purple belt in Gaijin Ryu Jiu Jitsu.
In the past few weeks there have been discussions about Shaddock meeting
former WWE champion and MMA mammoth David Batista in the cage, and Shaddock
has been more than anxious to bring this fight into fruition.
About the potential super fight, Shaddock commented, “There are a few
things that make this a great fight. One, we are around the same age. He
is a mountain of a man and I believe at 6’6” and 280 pounds would be a
challenge for any man. He is super strong and athletic, and a very
well-known celebrity, which of course would be great promotion for my gym.”
Since 2008 Shaddock MMA has prided itself on providing Carroll County,
Maryland with a full-service boxing and MMA gym for everyone—people of all
ages, levels and of various fitness goals. Unlike the typical
cookie-cutter gyms and trainers, John Shaddock works individually with each
client to help them reach their goals in and out of the gym.
Due to his ongoing service and reputation he has established within the
fight game, Shaddock would be an ideal opponent for Batista who is looking
to show he is the real deal within the cage.
Inside the cage Shaddock feels that he would have a great advantage in
terms of speed and striking against a big and strong opponent as Batista,
and believes the matchup would be a fan favorite fight.
“I think the bout would be size and strength versus experience and speed,
as I feel I am very fast for a big man,” said Shaddock. “The goal would be
to keep the fight on my feet, however, if it is taken to the mat I am no
slouch, and feel I would be more than ok. The big question is how I would
handle a man as big and strong as David Batista.”
Shaddock has been adamant that he is not looking to take this fight due to
ill feelings or animosity toward David Batista, but more so to test himself
against such an elite athlete while giving MMA fans an exciting show.
“Batista is a great athlete; he owns his own gym as I do and trains daily,”
said Shaddock. “I think he received unfair criticism over his last fight.
He was given a last minute substitute when he had trained for another guy.
On top of that he was fighting in his first MMA fight and he was the one
with all the pressure on him. To close I would like to get this fight. I
am hoping on spring or summer of 2013 as he has just fought and would need
time to get ready. I am not just some crack pot but a martial artist who
is looking to challenge himself.”
John Shaddock lives and breathes the lessons he instills in his students
daily. For the veteran of the sport, MMA is not simply about fighting; it
is about sculpting young fighters and passing along the lessons and values
which were taught to him.
“This year I have restarted my kids MMA programs and am teaching my
daughters—Cassandra, age 11, and Sofia, age seven,” said Shaddock. “We
have a lot of young up-and-coming amateurs and it is cool to watch them
progress and figure things out.”
John “The Original Bones” Shaddock vs. David Batista is a MMA fight that
fight fans around the world need to support to bring it to life. These two
warriors have spent their lives refining their craft, and class acts and
active members of their communities outside of the ring. Shaddock has—and
continues—to give back to the sport on a daily basis, and deserves this
opportunity to go to battle with Batista.
