Kids Street Self-Defense
Classes:
The classes with the kids
have been going great! Several parents have asked
about our Kids Street
Self-Defense program. We proudly announce we have some
space available.
If you are interested in
signing up your child please see the staff member
at academy for more
information. They’re not too many spaces available. We
have several kids
participating in the classes and everyone is doing a great
job learning both the NO-GI
Jiu-Jitsu, and the stand up.
The issue of bullying has
been in the news a lot lately. It’s seemingly
become an epidemic. Gracie
Jiu-Jitsu has already been known as the best form
of self-defense among all
martial arts. We have decided to add one more day,
or workout, to our ongoing
curriculum for kids.
Because bullying is an
ongoing issue we have decided to open up some more
spots in our self-defense
classes. During a limited time will be offering a
one month trial period for
the kids that are curious about these classes.
During this one month period
kids interested in seeing what the self-defense
class is all about will be
welcome to come in and participate.
As a reminder this class is
without the GI so students participating in
NO-GI class MUST wear an
Official Charles Gracie NO-GI uniform. Also these
classes will require
protective gear. (Gloves, Head Gear, Shin Guards, Mouth
Guards, Cup)
We will have protective gear
for sale at the Academy for kids, but the gear
doesn’t have to be Charles
Gracie Team gear.
The sole purpose of doing
this is to insure every student has the proper
equipment for this demanding
program. Remember, these rules have been set
for the health and safety of
our students!
Fear comes from a child
having no idea how to defend themselves and what
action to take when
threatened. This class is the answer. They will learn.
They will know. And they will
have this knowledge for the rest of their
lives.
If you have any question,
please feel free to contact me or any staff
members.
Charles Gracie Academy Belt
Promotion has been scheduled – Saturday, January
19, 2013:
We have our next Belt
Promotion scheduled for Saturday, January 19, 2013 and
I would like to see all of
the students training consistent, and training
hard so we can have more
students ready for the belt promotion.
Belt promotions are not just
given for attending so many classes, but earned
by the consistent attendance
and progression of all of our students within a
certain amount of time. The
records that we keep on all student attendance
alerts me to the time when I
can expect students to have qualified for a
belt promotion. Remember,
this is a great opportunity for your child to put
the extra effort in to their
training for the upcoming promotion.
Please keep in mind that this
year we will be using the tournament as an
evaluation tool and counting
participation towards our belt promotions! The
reason we have decided to
make this modification is because tournament
participation is a crucial
part of the learning process of Jiu-Jitsu. All
students who want to be
considered for belt promotions are highly
recommended to participate in
the tournament!
5th Annual Charles Gracie
Invitational Jiu-Jitsu Tournament – Saturday,
December 15th:
We host this end of the year
tournament as a way to celebrate our team's
continued hard work, the end
of another successful year, and to spend time
with friends and family
during a friendly Jiu-Jitsu gathering. Your child’s
participation is greatly
appreciated and it will be a pleasure having you
and your family participating
in our 5th Annual Charles Gracie Invitational
Jiu-Jitsu Tournament this
year. The Tournament will be held in Lathrop,
California, at the Main Gym
of Lathrop High School located at 647 Lathrop
Rd., Lathrop, California
95330. Lathrop is near Tracy (8 minutes away from
Tracy). I hope that you and
your family will enjoy this end of the year
celebration.
I would also like to let you
know that the tournament Registration Forms are
available at the Academy.
Registrations are open, and you can either turn in
your child’s registration
forms at the academy, or mail them to us directly
at 344 W. Grant Line Rd.
Tracy, CA 95376. Too many students wait for the
last minute to sign-up for
our event. When this happens, the end result is a
rush of entries on the last
day. As such, the late arrivals make our task
very difficult in completing
all the things we need to do to organize the
event, such as division
brackets. So we ask you once again, PLEASE submit
your child registration form
as earliest possible.
We do have a NOVICE DIVISION
for students with less than 6 months of
training:
A NOVICE DIVISION it is for
students with less than 6 months of training. We
want to give beginners a
chance to compete and enjoy the atmosphere as a
competitor and not just a
spectator. We are doing this solely to provide a
special competition to
students who are just starting out and who might not
have an interest in competing
against students who are far more advanced at
grappling.
A competitor MUST have no
more than SIX MONTHS of Jiu-Jitsu training. NO
EXCEPTIONS!
Our purpose is to give true
beginners of roughly equal knowledge of, and
abilities in, the sport of
Jiu- Jitsu a chance to experience a real
tournament free of the
concerns of competing against advanced practitioners.
The White Belt Novice
Division will be divided into sub divisions with
respect to weight, age; but
all competitors will simply be White Belts with
no more than SIX MONTHS
training.
Remember that the WHITE BELT
NOVICE DIVISION will be for the competitors of
six months or less experience
only! The regular white belt divisions for
more experienced students
will still be part of this tournament.
Of course, we will still have
all the same traditional WHITE Belt divisions
for experienced students and
practitioners but we always look for ways to
help NEW students develop and
grow in the sport.
For students who qualify for
this division please DON’T FORGET TO WRITE
“NOVICE DIVISION” at the top
of your child’s Registration Forms.
Prizes:
All Competitors will receive
One Tournament T-shirt.
All Athletes in first and
second place will be awarded gold and silver
medals respectively.
All Children will be awarded
with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.
This year I hope to see the
biggest tournament we have hosted yet and I
count on you to help achieve
our goal. In all of my academies my students
are aware that this year’s
tournament will be counted towards future belt
promotions. Anyone who is in
hopes of being promoted is highly encouraged to
participate in the event. I
have decided to do this for multiple reasons,
the first being that;
tournaments are a great opportunity for us to evaluate
our students and see where we
can make improvements. Second, because
competition is an important
part of the growth and learning process of each
student in jiu-jitsu. Our
tournament gives each one of our students an
opportunity to demonstrate
and test their skills in a friendly, pressure
free environment. I hope that
this year all of us will make doubled efforts
to show our students the
importance in their participation at our end of the
year celebration!
I HOPE WE CAN ALL CONTINUE TO
TRAIN AS A TEAM AND GROW AS A FAMILY!
Thank you,
Charles Gracie
