Lightweights John Alessio vs. Shane Roller Announced For UFC 148

A lightweight bout has been added to this July’s upcoming UFC 148 event, as John ‘The Natural’ Alessio (34-15) and Shane Roller (10-6) have agreed to meet at the upcoming Las Vegas card.
The promotion made the match official on Thursday night at UFC.com.

It’s well-rounded striker vs. well-rounded grappler as verbal agreements are in for a lightweight fight between John “The Natural” Alessio and Team Takedown’s Shane Roller at UFC 148.

UFC 148 is expected to take place on July 7, 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Alessio has yet to earn a win inside the Octagon after their separate appearances with the top promotion. He returned to the UFC, for the third time, last month at UFC 145 where he lost a unanimous decision to Mark Bocek. Alessio made his return by replacing an injured Matt Wiman. Alessio was on a three fight win streak and had pout together a record of 10-1 in his last eleven matches.

Roller is 1-3 and is on a three fight losing skid with the UFC. His last loss took place in January of this year after taking a fight on short notice at UFC on FOX 2 by replacing an injured Cody McKenzie against Michael Johnson. Johnson would win a unanimous decision. Roller’s two other defeats came at the hands of TJ Grant and Melvin Guillard.
